Tapered roller bearing is separable, it's composed of inner ring rollers, cage and outer ring, and can be installed separately. The modified contact line between rollers and raceway can reduce stress concentration. Tapered roller bearings can sustain heavy radial loads and axial loads. However, since one tapered roller bearing can only support one-way axial loads, another tapered roller bearing is required to be installed symmetrically in order to support the axial loads from opposite direction.
Among all tapered roller bearings, the most widely used kind is single-row tapered roller bearing. But in recent years, small size double-row tapered roller bearings are found to be used in automobile's front wheel hub, and four-row tapered roller bearings are widely applied in large-scale cold rolling mill and other heavy-duty machines.
