The U.S. Commercial Service’s auto team is dedicated to increasing U.S. automotive exports and supporting American automotive manufacturers doing business around the world. The automotive industry is crucial to the American economy as one of the largest employers and manufactured goods export sectors.
We’re happy to report that 2013 was an excellent year for the industry! Here are some highlights:
U.S. exports of automotive parts surpassed $77 billion –a 3.1 percent growth compared to 2012;
More than 80 percent of automotive parts exports were to Free Trade Agreement countries;
New passenger vehicle exports climbed to more than $52 billion – a 9 percent increase from 2012 and 115 percent growth since 2009;
U.S. medium, heavy duty & other truck exports reached $6.5 billion
NAFTA partner countries accounted for nearly 82 percent of these truck exports
Used passenger vehicle exports exceeded $8.2 billion. China alone accounted for $915 million, followed by Nigeria ($832 million).
