After the internal system transformation, Xinjiang Bearing Plant(XBP) had shifted from a collapsing enterprise to a vigorous one. In past, annual output value created by 1000 workers was RMB30 million yuan; now, the same annual output value was created by 200 workers.
The biggest problem of XBP is the same as other state-owned enterprises. Redundant staffs and positions caused the high production cost and low efficiency. These problems didn't emerge during the planned economy period, but it can't be covered up in the market economy period.
There are thousands of enterprises who are engaged in manufacturing of bearings, so the competition is fierce in this industry. Most bearing manufacturers could produce at least 30,000 kinds of bearings, some of them could even produce 60,000 kinds. XBP, however, could only produce bearings of about 300 types. Additionally, far away from the major market, XBP spent much in raw material's purchasing and product's distributing, which improved the cost of their products.
It's the transformation that give XBP an out and out change. Currently, every worker's wage is subjected to their work, more and better job means higher wage. Workers begin to ask for job but waiting for. High efficiency guaranteed the quality of XBP bearings, so the problem of products cost can't trouble them as seriously as before.
