China's Machine Tools Importing Cost will Exceed $6.5Billion in 2005

In the first quarter, China imported 26,796 sets of metal processing machine tools, 10 percent less than the same period last year; cost for importing these machine tools was $1.594 billion, 27 percent more than last year. But we can see that the annual increasing rate of importing cost has been decreased from last year's 43 percent.

Among the machine tools imported, more than 70 percent of the total is metal cutting machine tools and others are metal shaping machine tools. The machine tools we imported mainly included the following types: processing center, special measure processing machine tools(process materials by electricity, laser or etching etc.), milling machine, lathe, pressing machine etc. All these machines are mainly imported from Japan, China Taiwan, Germany, USA, Korea, Italy and Switzerland.

According to the data collocted last year, machine tools imported from the above 7 countries or regions accounted for 91.6 percent of the whole machine tools import in China last year. The share of Japan, China Taiwan and Germany accounted for 68.3 percent ot the total. In 2004, China mainly imported high grade and large-sized machine tools from Germany and Italy; high grade but middle or small-sized ones from Switzerland; middle-high grade ones from Japan and USA; middle-low grade ones from China Taiwan and Korea.

As a result of the little slowered developing of Chinese machine manufacturing industry, the increasing speed of foreign fund using will also be slowered. Indicately, 2005's increasing rate of importing cost on machine tools will be decreased more and kept at 10 to 20 percent. China's annual importing cost on machine tools will be exceed $6.5 billion by the end of 2005, still be the No.1 country in importing machine tools in the world.
